Your author is Jim Wasserman. I grew up in Northwest Ohio and live in Sacramento, Calif., with stops along the way in lovely, wet Kodiak and Juneau, Alaska. I found the rainy season during the 1970s in Sierra Leone, West Africa, reading, writing and pondering the world "as without pause, the hundred and forty-four inches of water continued their steady and ponderous descent upon the roofs of the port." I still ponder such things.
